Current Weekly Peace Walk Report
Hello friends,
Last Sunday was our 52nd peace walk of this war, and while we can be proud of our persistence, we have to be sad and angry that we have to be out there at all. Especially now, when it seems that the Bush administration is intent on destroying Iraq. Or rather, finishing the destruction undertaken with such vigor and success in 1991. If the response we got at the Lake Sunday was any indication of the overall mood of Oakland toward bombing Iraq, then I think we can safely say that this city is not buying Bush's war plans. We always get lots of honks of support, but this past Sunday's response from passing cars was like none we've ever experienced before. Especially as we got back to the colonnade, the noise from many cars all honking at once, and literally laying on their horns, was deafening! Added to that, all the waves and thumbs up and "V's" coming from the cars made it seem like a rally on wheels. Very heartening!
Our numbers were up a little, but it would certainly be wonderful if we could start having much larger numbers of peace activists walking the Lake in opposition to our government's determination to drop bombs on innocent Iraqi civilians. So if you haven't been to a peace walk lately, now would be a good time to come back.
Also, if you haven't visited our website in awhile, check it out. Our webmaster friend, Wm, has added Palestine and Iraq resources pages, a calendar of upcoming events, new graphics, and more.
Hope to see you Sunday at the Lake!
Beth
