Daily Fact & Act #32

*This is 1991, right? Recession, war on Iraq, lower markets, low employment, low job creation, weak dollar, a "president" who is out of touch-- "It's the economy stupid" --with the people, lies and rumors being touted by politicians and the press as truth, government actions causing mass protests in the streets.
Analysis
Over and over we hear "The second largest oil fields in the world, second only to Saudi Arabia." The United States would not be content with second best. Saudi Arabia is an oligarchy/dicatorship whose own economy is sinking fast. The King's admonishment of the United States on both Palestinian and Iraq issues has left the administration cold, prefering to brand them as "Those who are not with us. Those who are against us."
The United States intends to control both the largest and second largest oil fields in the interest of the national security of the democracy; read, "capitalism."
So which oilfield is #1? Looks like Iraq. Not hard to guess who has known that for some time. Would that be the Georges Bush (both)? Would that be Condalizza-Rice? Would that be Donald Rumsfeld? Would that be Colin Powell? Would that be Dick Cheney?
Apparently the energy/oil policy of the United States will attempt to control both fields by:
1). Miltary force and regime change in Iraq;
2). Economically isolating the Saudi's, forcing them to concede to the United States' (twisted?) will, by turning them into a second Iraq.
Who came up with this policy?
Dick Cheney in his report written with oil sector CEO's. Cheney continues to defy the courts and hide these meetings from the public for reasons of...?

Fact
Chalabi now directs the Centre for Global Energy Studies, a London think tank founded by Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani, a former oil minister of Saudi Arabia. He has ominous news for the sheikh's countrymen: Iraq's real recoverable oil reserves could be double today's estimate. "Ultimately they could exceed those of Saudi Arabia," Chalabi says.
The oil in these Iraqi fields is low in sulfur and close to the surface. There will be no need to inject water or gas or chemicals in order to upgrade recovery. In short, it's cheap to produce. "Iraq has the lowest lifting cost in the world," says Chalabi. "I estimate it at below $1 a barrel, compared with Saudi Arabia, which is around $2.50 a barrel."

A consensus is emerging that the gap between the U.S. economy's growth potential and its actual performance will remain large for some time to come. Can the situation get worse? Yes, it can: much worse.
