Daily Fact & Act #09
Saturday, 28 September 1991*
From Harlem

*This is 1991, right? Recession, war on Iraq, lower markets, low employment, low job creation, weak dollar, a "president" who is out of touch-- "It's the economy stupid" --with the people, lies and rumors being touted by politicians and the press as truth, government actions causing mass protests in the streets.

Analysis
1). Hussein seems increasingly co-operative while the U.S. leaves the world breathless in its exhibition of astonishing arrogance and unrelenting bloodthirstiness.

Barking and shouting their illegal threats against the population of a sovereign state, the Bush cabinet is engaged in international war crimes as we speak. The people of Iraq know the rhetoric of "getting Saddam" means death in the streets by the tens of thousands, and eventually millions, since it is likely we will use once again internationally banned weapons of mass destruction (depleted uranium-tipped bombs) on civilians, as we have done in Iraq for 10 years, as we did in Belgrade in 1998.

THE INVISIBLE WAR: DEPLETED URANIUM AND THE POLITICS OF RADIATION

"If I threaten my neighbor I could go to jail. And rightly so. Threat is a crime. We have threatened Iraq daily for 10 years. This is one of the most dangerous times in history."

Attorney General Ramsey Clark (paraphrased from video on Cable access channel 34, New York City)

"The purpose of the bombing campaign is to degrade Iraqís infrastructure and should also be understood as a type of psychological warfare against the people of Iraq. It is the U.S. government that is guilty of genocide. According to the UNís Food and Agricultural Organization report of 1996 and the UNICEF report of 1998, more than a half a million Iraqi children under the age of five have died directly as a result of sanctions. It is imperative that people of this country take action now to stop the government from carrying out limitless violence in their name."

NATIONAL MARCH ON D.C. TO STOP THE WAR ON IRAQ BEFORE IT STARTS

2). The war on Iraq has indeed already begun. Many of us know it never stopped. Is the Bush administration so vehement and uncompromising because it is already engaged in what it had hoped would be acceptable behavior weeks ago?

The U.S. & Britain have BOMBED IRAQ THREE TIMES THIS WEEK:

"An Anglo-US air strike on Basra airport has destroyed its radar, Iraqi state media reports.

The jets attacked the radar at the airport in the Gulf port "in response to recent Iraqi hostile threats," the US military says.

It is the third air strike on targets in southern Iraq in the past week.

An Iraqi Transport Ministry official says the attack led to the "complete destruction of the radar."

The ministry spokesman says US and British planes "from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have committed a crime against our civil installations."

The spokesman claims the radar's functions were civilian - the monitoring of civil aircraft taking off and landing."

Action
Senate offices report 100 to 1 against the war on Iraq. Why hasn't media reported?

1). CALL NEWSPAPERS: Demand polls and Senate office contituent statistics. Our voices are being heard "overwhelmingly" in offices of the elected. Media needs to report.

Congress Overwhelmed With Anti-War Calls From "The Silenced Majority"

2). Petition Don't Attack Iraq; Work Through the U.N.

Fact
The Propaganda machine hired for $200 million dollars of tax payer money is in full swing to get the American and British people behind the war AT ALL COSTS. This is nothing new. We learned in the Gulf War that the same men in the White House right now are capable of horrendous lies.

There is no case for a war on Iraq. It has not threatened to attack the US or Europe. It is not connected to al-Qa'ida. There is no evidence that it has new weapons of mass destruction, or that it possesses the means of delivering them.

This pamphlet separates the evidence for what we know about Iraq from the wild suppositions used as the pretext for a war.
